bio

Gabrielle Stanley is an emerging artist who works with a variety of mediums including sculpture, printmaking, photography, and contemporary installations. Living on the Gold Coast since 1996, she is acutely aware of the way in which the old is so readily replaced by the new, and she questions what is lost in this transition. Prior to embarking on a career in the arts, Gabrielle worked as a registered nurse for over twenty years where she was in the unique position to witness privileged and often intimate moments of life, care and death. In response to both her location and personal history, she is interested in exploring how as individuals, and as a society we treat the old and the new, how we value and devalue objects, places and people. Her work is often focused on nostalgic memory, maternal inclinations and the documentation of 'a time' and of time passing. In her practice Gabrielle often juxtaposes the old with the new or hybridises the two to create a new way of seeing value, past and present
